Waymo expands its driverless robotaxi service into five new cities: Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando. The company removes human safety drivers from vehicles in Miami starting today and rolls out this change across the other four cities in the coming weeks. This expansion doubles the number of cities where Waymo operates fully driverless vehicles.
Initially, the self-driving robotaxis remain exclusive to Waymo employees in the newly added cities. The company plans to open the service to the general public in 2026. Waymo currently provides paid rides in Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco.
This milestone highlights a new phase of commercial scale for the company, which now completes over 250,000 rides and drives more than 2 million fully autonomous miles every week. Waymo also broadens its operational capabilities by recently adding freeway driving to its services in the San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
