Waymo provides a $3 credit to Bay Area riders who travel to or from specific public transit stations using its robotaxi service. This promotion runs through November 15, and users can spend the earned credits on future rides until December 31. The company notes that this initiative is the first of its kind among autonomous vehicle operators in the United States.
The program targets a handful of stations in south and southwest San Francisco, including stops for BART, Muni, and Caltrain. Credits apply automatically when a rider visits one of the eligible locations, meaning passengers do not need to show proof that they actually board a train or bus. However, the offer restricts users to earning only one $3 credit per day to prevent abuse.
Waymo created this pilot after a survey reveals that 36% of its San Francisco riders use the service to connect to other transit modes. Unlike a similar recent program in Seattle that uses government funding to connect bike and scooter shares with public transit, Waymo finances this promotion entirely on its own. Experts suggest that more transportation companies should adopt these types of multimodal connection programs to make getting around easier for everyday riders.
