This announcement is part of a massive wave of expansion from the Alphabet subsidiary, which reveals plans for New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Tampa just two weeks ago. Additional recent announcements include Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando, alongside a new initiative to offer robotaxi rides on freeways in the San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Waymo currently operates in Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, providing over 250,000 rides per week and surpassing 10 million total paid rides.
Looking ahead to 2026, Waymo plans an aggressive growth strategy that includes launching or expanding services in major cities like Nashville, Las Vegas, San Diego, Detroit, Washington D.C., Seattle, and Denver. Notably, several of these newly targeted cities, such as Pittsburgh and Detroit, experience regular snowfall, which marks a significant operational shift for a company that initially deploys only in warm climates. Furthermore, Waymo sets its sights on international markets by planning a 2026 deployment in London and already testing vehicles in Tokyo.
