Wayve Partners With Microsoft to Scale Autonomous Vehicle AI Globally

Wayve partners with Microsoft to utilize supercomputing infrastructure for developing AI-based autonomous vehicle models on a global scale. This collaboration builds upon Microsoft’s participation in Wayve’s $200M Series B funding round and extends their existing relationship that begins in 2020 with Microsoft Azure.

The partnership combines Wayve’s expertise in training deep neural networks with vast amounts of data alongside Microsoft’s engineering excellence in large-scale AI systems. Unlike traditional self-driving technology that depends on expensive hardware and HD mapping, Wayve uses a data-driven approach that allows vehicles to generalize and navigate previously unseen locations without city-specific adaptations.

This ability to generalize quickly attracts major commercial partners, leading UK grocery retailers Asda and Ocado Group to trial Wayve’s technology for last-mile delivery operations in London. These autonomous delivery vans navigate diverse urban routes while simultaneously collecting fleet-scale data to further train and improve Wayve’s AI models.
