The Graph, a protocol widely known as the "Google of Web3" for its blockchain data indexing capabilities, reveals a comprehensive "New Era" roadmap that includes AI-assisted querying. By integrating large language models, the project aims to fundamentally change how developers interact with and retrieve decentralized data. This strategic update represents one of the most substantial overhauls for the network since it successfully raised $50 million in 2022.
Alongside artificial intelligence integration, the new roadmap introduces advanced technologies like Firehose and Substreams to dramatically increase the speed of blockchain data indexing. Substreams allows developers to write Rust modules for high-performance, parallelized data streaming, while the update also prepares a solution for accessing Ethereum's archive data ahead of the EIP-4444 upgrade. These tools give Web3 builders powerful new ways to compose data streams without relying on centralized intermediaries.
The announcement arrives as The Graph continues its ongoing migration from the Ethereum mainnet to the Arbitrum layer 2 scaling solution, a process that started in June. Currently, the decentralized network supports data querying across 40 different blockchain networks. Officials from The Graph Foundation express strong optimism about these upcoming innovations, noting that they provide the necessary infrastructure to support the next generation of decentralized applications.
