WeRide and Uber partner to bring Spain's first commercial robotaxi service to Madrid in 2026. Riders will access the autonomous vehicles directly through the standard Uber app.
WeRide and Uber jointly announce plans to launch Spain’s first commercial robotaxi pilot service in Madrid. This project marks the first collaboration between the two companies in the European market and makes Madrid the 12th city in WeRide’s global robotaxi network. Backed by the regional government of Madrid, the service is scheduled to go live in 2026.
Users will hail the autonomous vehicles directly through the standard Uber app. During the initial phase, the robotaxis operate with trained safety operators on board to monitor the rides. Local operating partner AVOMO manages the fleet’s day-to-day operations on the ground.
The companies plan to deploy hundreds of robotaxis over time. They eventually aim to expand fully driverless operations across key areas of the city. This expansion represents a significant step for both brands in establishing a foothold in the European autonomous driving sector.
