XPeng Unveils City Driving Tech, Flying Cars, and Kid Robots at 2021 Tech Day

XPeng reveals a broad vision for the future of mobility at its 2021 Tech Day in Beijing, showcasing innovations that go well beyond standard smart electric vehicles. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng emphasizes that the company focuses on implementing cutting-edge, carbon-neutral mobility technologies into mass-production models to benefit customers and build long-term competitive advantages.
The automotive highlight is Xpilot 3.5, an advanced driver assistance system designed specifically for city driving that XPeng plans to roll out in select cities in the first half of 2022. Available exclusively on the lidar-equipped P5 sedan, this City Navigation Guided Pilot system uses a mix of rule-driven and data-driven AI to handle complex urban scenarios like avoiding pedestrians and changing lanes at any speed.
Beyond its automotive advancements, XPeng introduces a next-generation flying car developed in partnership with HT Aero and a robotic unicorn designed for children. By expanding its focus to include urban air mobility and consumer robotics, XPeng takes a Tesla-like approach to autonomy—starting at Level 2 ADAS with the ultimate goal of reaching full Level 5 self-driving capabilities.
