Y Combinator S19 Demo Day 1 Showcases 84 Startups Seeking Funding
Y Combinator kicks off its S19 Demo Day with 84 startups pitching to Silicon Valley investors. Notable companies include a cloud-based Chrome streaming service and a radar device that sees through walls.
Y Combinator hosts the first day of its S19 Demo Day at Pier 48 in San Francisco, where 84 startups pitch their companies to a crowd of eager investors. While Demo Day historically serves as a public debut for these startups, increased prestige means many of the top companies already secure funding at high valuations before taking the stage.
Several unique companies stand out among the day's presentations, including Mighty, a $20 per month cloud computer streaming service built specifically for Google Chrome. Founded by the creator of Mixpanel, Mighty streams the browser from a high-powered PC to make the user's experience considerably faster while using only a fraction of local CPU resources.
Other notable pitches include Hype and Vice, a fast-growing women's college apparel brand with impressive 84 percent margins, and Lumineye, a startup building portable 3D-printed radar devices. Lumineeye's technology allows first responders to identify breathing and moving humans through walls, concrete, and rubble, currently generating $90,000 in ARR through four pilot programs.
