YouTube Makes Original Shows Free With Ads Starting September 24th
YouTube is making its original series and movies free for all users with ads starting late September. Paying Premium members still receive ad-free viewing and early access to new episodes.
YouTube makes its original shows, movies, and live events free for all users starting September 24th. Viewers watch this ad-supported programming without needing a paid subscription. This move fulfills a promise the video platform makes earlier in the year to open up its exclusive content to the general public.
Paying YouTube Premium subscribers still receive significant perks for their $12 monthly fee. They enjoy an ad-free viewing experience and get immediate access to entire seasons of new shows. Additionally, Premium members exclusively watch director's cuts and bonus scenes whenever creators provide them.
Non-paying users wait for episodic releases but gain access to all YouTube Originals without opening their wallets. Meanwhile, YouTube adds new features for Premium subscribers, including a "Recommended downloads" section in the app. Android users also benefit from the ability to automatically download up to 500 songs from their Liked Songs list and easily switch between audio tracks and music videos.
