YouTube Redesigns Desktop Homepage for Simplicity and Better Control
YouTube rolls out a cleaner desktop and tablet homepage design that prioritizes larger thumbnails and longer titles over information density. The update also introduces an "Add to Queue" feature and better recommendation controls for web users.
YouTube introduces a cleaner, more spacious homepage design for its desktop and tablet versions. The update moves away from dense layouts by featuring larger video thumbnails, longer video titles, and higher-resolution previews. This shift aligns with recent Google design trends that prioritize readability and give content more room to breathe.
Because of the expanded visuals, the new layout displays fewer videos per row and removes some topic-based content shelves. However, YouTube still organizes important content into specific shelves like Breaking News and Top News when appropriate. The redesign also gives more visual prominence to channel icons so viewers easily identify their favorite creators.
Beyond visual changes, YouTube brings its "Add to Queue" option to the desktop web experience. Users now click a button directly on the video thumbnail to add a video to their queue or their "Watch Later" list, even while a minimized video plays. Unlike saved playlists, this temporary queue clears when the user closes the browser window.
