YouTube Shorts Upgrades Dream Screen With AI Video Backgrounds
YouTube's Dream Screen feature now generates dynamic AI video backgrounds for Shorts, moving beyond static images. This upgrade utilizes Google DeepMind's Veo model to give creators a unique edge over TikTok.
YouTube expands its Dream Screen feature for Shorts by introducing AI-generated video backgrounds. The tool previously only allowed creators to produce static image backgrounds, but it now leverages Google DeepMind’s Veo model to generate high-definition 1080p video clips. Users access this by tapping the green screen icon in the Shorts camera, selecting Dream Screen, and typing a text prompt like "magical forest with a stream."
After entering a prompt, creators choose from various cinematic animation styles and tap "Create" to generate multiple video background options. YouTube envisions users applying these dynamic backgrounds to place themselves inside their favorite book settings or to craft animated intros for their short videos. The platform also plans to eventually let creators generate six-second standalone AI video clips directly for their Shorts.
This upgrade gives YouTube Shorts a distinct advantage over TikTok, as the competing platform currently limits its AI background generation to static images. The new AI video background capability is launching immediately for users in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
