YouTube Unveils Conversational Search and AI Remix Tools at Google I/O
YouTube introduces "Ask YouTube" for complex conversational queries and integrates Gemini Omni into Shorts for easy AI remixing. These new tools aim to transform how users discover content and express their creativity.
YouTube introduces a new conversational search experience called Ask YouTube, allowing users to perform complex queries and ask follow-up questions to find specific content. This tool searches across the entire YouTube catalog, including long-form videos and Shorts, to deliver an interactive and structured response. Currently, Ask YouTube is available for Premium members aged 18 and up in the U.S., with a broader rollout planned for all users soon.
The platform also integrates Gemini Omni into YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app to significantly boost user creativity. This upgrade allows users to remix eligible Shorts by adding personal prompts and images to completely transform a video, such as applying a 90s aesthetic or inserting themselves next to a favorite creator. Gemini Omni handles complex video and audio adjustments automatically, enabling users to focus purely on their ideas rather than technical execution.
To protect original creators, all Shorts remixed through Gemini Omni feature digital watermarks, identifying metadata, and direct links back to the source material. Creators maintain full control over their content and can easily opt out of visual remixing at any time. Additionally, YouTube expands its industry-first likeness detection tool to all creators aged 18 and older, and the new Omni remixing feature is rolling out at no cost in the YouTube Create app.
