Zepeto Creator Naver Z Invests in Motion Capture Firm Rokoko
Naver Z, the company behind the 3D-avatar app Zepeto, leads a $3 million strategic investment into affordable motion capture company Rokoko. The partnership aims to supercharge Rokoko's expansion into Asia and allow animators to monetize their work within the Zepeto ecosystem.
Naver Z, the company behind the popular 3D-avatar app Zepeto, makes a strategic investment into the Danish motion capture company Rokoko. The $3 million funding round values Rokoko at over $80 million and includes participation from previous lead investors VF Venture and North-East Venture. Rokoko achieves profitability last year, meaning the company faces little pressure to raise a large financial round.
Rokoko provides affordable motion capture suits and software to more than 50,000 users globally. While some clients are major industry players, the majority are indie creators who previously lack access to high-end animation tools. The company's Smartsuit Pro allows animators to track and translate physical movements into character animations without needing an expensive, camera-equipped studio.
This partnership significantly boosts Rokoko's plans to expand its business into the Asian market. Additionally, Naver Z intends to open the Zepeto ecosystem so that animators can directly monetize the movements they create using Rokoko's tools. This collaboration highlights a major step toward making professional-grade motion capture technology accessible to everyday creators in the growing metaverse.
