Zoom Unveils OnZoom Events Marketplace and Third-Party App Integrations
Zoom introduces an events marketplace for ticketed virtual experiences alongside new third-party app integrations and upcoming end-to-end encryption. The announcements highlight a busy day in tech that also includes new tools for journalists and major startup funding rounds.
Zoom launches its new OnZoom marketplace, allowing anyone to host and sell tickets for virtual events while giving nonprofits a way to accept donations directly. Revealed at the Zoomtopia user conference, this expansion shows how Zoom pivots from simple video meetings to a comprehensive virtual event platform.
The video conferencing giant also announces integrations with 35 third-party "Zapps," bringing tools like Asana and Dropbox directly into the Zoom interface. Additionally, Zoom confirms it rolls out long-promised end-to-end encryption to all users next week, fulfilling a pledge made after its acquisition of Keybase in May.
Other major tech developments include Spotify introducing a new music-and-spoken word format for creators and Google launching Journalist Studio, a suite of data tools for reporters. In the startup world, Getaround raises $140 million, Plenty secures over $500 million for indoor farming, and Databricks reaches a $350 million annual run rate.
