DataRobot Acquires Paxata to Expand Automated Machine Learning Platform

DataRobot is purchasing data prep startup Paxata to fill a gap in its automated machine learning workflow. The acquisition combines model building with data preparation to help customers move faster from raw data to valuable insights.

DataRobot announces its intention to acquire Paxata, a data preparation platform startup, to expand its automated machine learning capabilities. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition allows DataRobot to fill a major gap in its platform by integrating data prep tools directly alongside its existing model building and testing features.

Company executives highlight the natural fit between the two organizations, noting that every DataRobot customer faces data management challenges that Paxata is specifically designed to solve. By combining DataRobot's extensive machine learning knowledge with Paxata's preparation tools, the joint company plans to deliver a unique and highly integrated experience that helps users accelerate the journey from raw data to deployed models.

Under the agreement, Paxata's nearly 100 employees join DataRobot and establish a new West Coast office in Redwood City. Although the teams work to integrate the platforms deeply, Paxata continues to operate as a standalone product for the time being, fulfilling DataRobot's recent promise to pursue strategic acquisitions that complement its core technology.
