Former HubSpot Exec Raises $12M for AI Customer Success Startup

Elias Torres launches Agency AI out of stealth with a $12 million seed round to automate tasks for customer success managers. The startup uses deep data integration to handle onboarding, scheduling, and customer support.

Former HubSpot executive and Drift co-founder Elias Torres launches Agency AI, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to automate tasks traditionally handled by customer success managers. The company emerges from stealth with a $12 million seed round led by Sequoia and HubSpot Ventures. Agency aims to streamline workflows for B2B software companies by taking over time-consuming duties like scheduling, note-taking, and customer onboarding.

Torres conceives the idea while consulting for OpenAI in early 2023, where he helps develop enterprise solutions for major clients like the NBA and Live Nation. A conversation with HubSpot co-founder Brian Halligan, who joins Agency's board, ultimately convinces Torres to build the company. Sequoia partner Pat Grady quickly backs the concept, noting that scaling great customer success managers is difficult and that AI offers a powerful solution.

Agency's AI system builds a deep understanding of each customer by analyzing emails, CRM data, chat messages, and phone conversations. This comprehensive data integration allows the platform to anticipate customer needs and act on their behalf throughout the user journey. Torres views this development as the culmination of a long-standing dream to create truly personalized, automated customer relationships.
